Inferno cover reveal and release date!!!!!

I can’t tell you how excited I am for this. This book has been almost a decade in the making. Inferno was originally written as a serial short story for my homeschool riding group – the Saddle Up Club – for their monthly newsletter. It was one of the first stories I actually finished writing. I got a lot of great comments and feedback from it back then.

While I was in the process of writing my novel – Midnight Dancer – I started having trouble concentrating. So to get the creative juices flowing again I picked Inferno back up and began completely re-writing it.

It was terrible.

The characters had no depth, the descriptions were poor, and I couldn’t believe that anyone ever thought it had been good – so I went absolutely crazy on that book. Personality and depth have done wonders for this story, and it has grown from a short story of about 9,000 words, to a full length novella that is now at approx. 27,000+ words!

Now, I am so happy to finally be able to re-introduce Inferno to the world!

Inferno Kindle cover final fixed

This is only my second attempt at cover photoshopping, and I just love how it turned out!

Official release date is July 9!

It’s coming! Title reveal for my new novella!

The last few months have been difficult for my writing. There have been a lot of setbacks, a lot of tears shed. Several months worth of work was lost in a computer accident, even more with the loss of a notebook full of information at work.

It’s been hard to find motivation, and I’ll admit I’ve done little writing. But there is one silver lining here! My novella is finally almost done! I’m nearing the completion of edits and am preparing to send that baby out into the world! “Bites nails nervously”

Today i’m finally revealing the name of the novella.

it is…….

Inferno!

Back cover blurb coming soon!

If all goes well, i’m hoping to release it sometime in July. It’s for a slightly younger audience than what Shadowsong and most of my other books are written for, with a bit of a nod to the Saddle Club.

This book has been a lot of years in the making. I originally write it as a short story for my riding club newsletter when I was a young teen, and have since expanded the plot and characters beyond anything I had thought I could. It’s one of my oldest stories, and I really hope everyone loves it as much as I have.

It’s Coming!

Wordcount Wednesday

Okay, everyone, I admit it. I am a terrible blogger. Time seems to have taken one look at my plans for this year and laughed.

I am seriously far behind in my writing at this point. Chances of me actually making my New Years goals this year are probably slim to none at this point. With luck, I might manage to get two of the goals done.

The novella’s major edit was not completed by Valentines day as I had hoped. It actually just went out to the beta readers today. *groan*
As soon as the draft is returned to my desk I will begin formatting and dividing it into proper chapters. After that, publishing won’t be far away. The cover is already finished and I’m hoping that this one might even be my first paperback release (no promises yet though!)
In the meantime, I need to start thinking of a good back cover blurb.

I spent a little bit of time on Midnight Dancer over the last month and made some major changes to chapter 1, with a lot more to go. I’m thinking the opening section of the book is going to need a complete revision. It’s a bit weak. As of now, I’ve cut out around a thousand words and added somewhere around four thousand more, bringing the current total up to 70,321.

And keep your eyes open, Shadowsong will be free this Easter!

Wordcount Wednesday

Wow, has it really been a month since I last posted? Time is really getting away from me these days.

I am already falling a bit behind on my goals this year, but I have time to catch back up. Hopefully I can kick my brain into gear and get back on track. I seem to be spending more time focusing on awesome ideas for future books rather than what i’m supposed to be working on!

The novella is coming along fairly smoothly. The re-write is complete and I’m a little over halfway through the first major edit. I hope to have it completed and handed over to my two beta readers before Valentine’s Day. The word count is currently about 25200 words. A 4,677 word increase since my last post.

I haven’t really done a great deal with Midnight and Tower lately. I’ve written a couple of scenes and set them aside to paste into the main draft later, but mostly i’m just letting the ideas percolate and psyching myself up to dive back in just as soon as the novella is finished.

Wordcount Wednesday and Goals for the New Year

I’ve never been one to make New Year’s resolutions. Like most of us, I end up breaking them in no time flat. However, this year I have decided to set some writing goals and see if I can actually make them. It’s a tough order, But here’s hoping.

Goal 1. Finish and publish the unnamed novella. I’ve added 5,532 words since I last posted and am in the home stretch of the re-write. I still have quite a way to go before it is ready for publication, but i’m hoping to possibly see it out within the next six months – barring any complications.

Goal 2. Re-write Midnight Dancer. There have been a lot of changes made to this story since I finished the rough draft last year. One character in particular has suddenly shown a hidden side I had never seen before, or even guessed about! Now I have to figure out how to write it all in, but I do believe that though the story has turned a bit darker, the new depth and emotion will make it that much better. 254 words added since last post.

Goal 3. Finish the rough draft of Perilous Tower. I want to have this one ready for editing by 2018. Tower has the potential to be one of the best books in the series, but I’m having a terrible time getting the characters to speak to me, Especially my lead character, and that is not a good thing! So for right now I’m focusing on the first two of my goals and giving this one a bit of space. Hopefully they will start talking back to me soon. On the upside, I still managed to add another 561 words to the main draft plus 772 words to a partial new scene I haven’t added in yet.

Goal 4. If I have the time, I hope to finish the re-write of a sweet Christmas short story related to the unnamed novella mentioned under Goal 1, and maybe get it published by This coming Christmas.

Wow, this is going to be one mighty tall order. But with the Lord’s help, I hope to make it.

Happy 2017 everyone!

Wordcount Wednesday

Sorry that I’ve been so bad about posting lately. Has it really been three weeks? I can’t seem to keep track of the days anymore.

I started the re-write of Midnight Dancer this last week and added a good 1,161 words

The unnamed novella did best, racking up a nice 2,337.

In truth, I don’t have a lot to show for the last few weeks. I’ve been in a major writing slump and have hardly managed to write at all most days. My ‘minimum word count goal’ became a bit of a joke. Most of the past few weeks have been spent editing and re-writing. One of the three plot lines of Perilous Tower was really driving me crazy. It still has a few issues than I need to iron out, but things are definitely improving. I managed to write 2,202 words altogether in that draft this week, bringing the grand total to 19,333. I got a lot of that writing done yesterday, so hopefully that means that i’ve gotten past the dry spell.

Wordcount Wednesday

I am back in the writing zone this week! After struggling mightily to get anything onto paper for the past several weeks, the past several days have just been pouring words. Perilous Tower got 3,588 words added to it, making a total of 14,578, and one of my antagonists, who has been causing me no end of frustration since I started writing him, is finally opening up.
This character has been confusing and somewhat erratic since the day he stepped onto the pages back in book one. A couple of days ago, I was writing a scene between him and another character – from the other’s POV – and it wasn’t really working. Suddenly the dam burst and the words flowed out – from my antagonist’s POV. It worked! Now I finally understand why he has been acting the way he has, though this does mean I’m going to have to go back and do some more re-writes on book one to add this information in.

In other news this week, I managed to also add 904 words to a novelette I am currently re-writing. The book was originally written about a decade ago, and i’ve been having the strong urge to go back and start updating it to more my current writing style. Maybe someday it will see print too.  I also managed 950 words in what may eventually become a spinoff to the fairytale series.

Thank God I didn’t sign up for NaNoWriMo this month. I’ve never been a fast writer, but this had been one of the slowest writing months I have had since I started writing in earnest. I’ve only managed to write in Perilous Tower three or four times a week. In the past two weeks I have managed to add 3,210 words to Perilous Tower, bringing the grand total up to 10,990.

On another note, I did manage to write about 400 words in what might one day become a spinoff novel from this series.
